The following is a summary of the systematic review findings up to the date of our most recent literature search. If you have a specific clinical case, we strongly recommend you read all of the relevant references as cited and look for additional material published outside our search dates.

 

  • Of 540 studies reviewed, 13 addressed whether cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) caused rib fractures 1-13
  • Study design:
    • 1 case-control 9
    • 4 cross-sectional 1,3,11,12
    • 8 case series 2,4-8,10,13
  • Total data: over 1500 children
  • Age range: 0-18 years
  • Gender: data not analysed by gender
  • No study addressed CPR related rib fractures in disabled children
  • Influence of ethnicity and socio-economic group: not addressed by these included studies
